The two covers above were inspired by some old record covers that Quipsologies featured last week and I think it would be really fun to develop these into original designs, but a lot of work as well.
This is one of the covers I will be resubmitting next week. I loved this photo and the graphic-ness of all the legs. But I do worry it is not setting the right tone for a service piece about dance studios.
Loved this photo, but don't think it ended up translating well into a cover...
I also LOVED this photo when I saw it. Bravo to the photographer! Unfortunately it does not translate as well into a cover, but I am going to keep working on it to try and make it work. So check back to see if I pull it off!
As for this week, I will be resubmitting my Simplicity design and the two covers I mentioned above as well as punching out my first drafts for the magazine mock-up.

I love the design based off of the record cover, though I may be biased. It's so fun. The thing is, the quirky 'feet in the air' picture is also fun. I think it will challenge you a bit more than any of the others as you continue to work on it, so it was the right choice. For me, the 'feet in the air' picture offers more than the picture of the couple dancing. It implies dance and dance classes, but remains inviting to readers who haven't danced before. The picture of the couple is a little more intimidating and could make readers feel behind in skill level before they even start out a dance class.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I look forward to seeing what you come up with this Thursday!
The Groove Guide, The Groove Guide, The Groove Guide!!! I. Love. That. And I wish that they would have discussed it! I think that they just skimmed over it, but I think it's fabulous. I have to agree with the comment about the background for the feet-in-the-air photo. Those ceiling lights just kind of kill it for me, but I love the feet in general, hopefully the photo is used somewhere in the feature!
