This week on Quipsologies: Designing typography in the 21st century

A free ipad app available through the apple store called Mixel allows people to make collages using whatever art they supply.  One designer Senongo Akpem used the app to create a unique and beautiful typeface.  Because I haven't yet joined the pintrest world, I am not sure how one would go about obtaining the typface in order to actually use it, but I wouldn't mind figuring it out.  I think it would make for great display type, though you would have to use it sparingly even then.

  1. The 'B' is beautiful, a bunch of others seem to really fall short .... for instance, I hate the X. And all of the letters that use that goopy brown texture ... not so much. I agree, it's a great tool that could work for creating an illustration but not much beyond that. The ampersand above really works because that chameleon stands out against the simpler and flatter shapes (ironic!) and I think each letter would need to have a similarly strong element.

  2. Great tool and really over the top. I'd also love to know how they got the typeface to do it. I agree that it could only be used sparingly, and that each letter needs a standout element to work.
